Random Useless Fun – Saddest Cubicle Contest

Working in a cubicle brings with it a number of, shall we say, challenges. You hear every noise in the area: your neighbor’s phone call, your other neighbor’s sneezing, the water cooler conversations, and the beeps of the microwave buttons in the break room. If the cubicle walls are short, they are prone to becoming leaning posts or writing surfaces. Cubicles are not for the easily distracted.

On the other hand, your colleagues are literally a stone’s throw away (though I don’t recommend this method for getting their attention), making it easy to collaborate on the latest projects. You’ll also always be aware of when there is cake in the kitchen.

If you spend your days penned up in a cubicle, fear not. Wired is now running the Saddest Cubicle Contest. You can view and vote on the submissions thus far. Some of them may even make you feel better about your own workspace. If you think you have a chance of winning (and let me add here… sorry), enter your own photo. Entries are being accepted until 5:00 p.m. Eastern on Friday, October 12.

For additional amusement, check out Cubicle Coffee’s Top 10 Drawbacks to Working in a Cubicle, which includes:

  • Being told to “think outside the box” when you’re in a freakin’ box all day long.
  • That nagging feeling that if you press the right button, you’ll get a piece of cheese.

Happy cubicle working!
